Justice for All Means Justice For All
Introducing: OmbudPost --- Holding media to account and delivering restorative justice to victims of unethical journalism, cancel culture, recreational outrage, and online mob justice.
Welcome to The OmbudPost by me, Andrew Londre: Celebrated, Awarded, (and Vilified) Public Servant turned Political, Cultural, Media Commentator.
After going public with my own struggles to rebuild my life and my mental health after both were shattered by unethical journalism, cancel culture, recreational outrage, and online mob justice, something happened…
My Twitter DMs and Gmail inbox began to fill with stories strikingly similar to my own. It was then that I realized many of my growing suspicions about the relative “uniqueness” of my story were true:
There are countless people like mine whose stories have yet to be heard and need to be.
I am not the only one looking for a community of people who have experienced pain like mine and have struggled to find people who will advocate for me and support my recovery.
My desperate search for resources and solid advice to deal with all the challenges and traumas I experienced (and continue to experience) is not unique.
What I have been through is not at all uncommon in the modern media and cultural landscape - though I wish it were.
Because of this, I chose to make something positive from my pain, and I am calling it The OmbudPost.
Why “OmbudPost?”
“Ombud” is a reference to a position that was once quite common in newsrooms across America: newsroom “ombudsmen” were responsible for serving as “an independent accountability buffer between the newspapers and the publics they served.” The did so, by “respond[ing] to reader complaints, call[ing] out newspaper errors and explain[ing] behind-the-scenes news decisions, processes and more[.]” Unfortunately, only a scant few newsrooms still employ an ombudsman at a time when their services are needed more than ever before.
OmbudPost will be the 21st Century version of the 20th Century news ombudsmen, as well as a restorative justice effort for victims of unethical journalism, cancel culture, recreational outrage, and online mob justice.
